"It is clear that center can play a role in the upcoming elections. We should govern together, however Bayrou should answer, because today the level of faithfulness and the level of fidelity in the French politics is very low," Myard said when asked about a possible deal to defeat Le Pen.
Earlier this week, former French leader Nicolas Sarkozy said that if Juppe was elected president with the support of the Democratic Movement, he would be held hostage to an alliance with Bayrou, who endorsed socialist French President Francois Hollande during the presidential election in 2012 and could easily switch sides in the future.
“I do agree with Sarkozy who points at the lack of solidity and faithfulness of Bayrou because of his endorsement of Hollande. This man is criticized among the Republicans very much," Myard said.
The 2017 French presidential elections will be held in April and May. A poll, conducted by Ifop on October 26, confirms that Le Pen is expected to advance to the second round of presidential elections, securing from 26 percent to 30 percent in the first round. The only candidate who can do better in the first round is Juppe, who could secure around 35 percent of the vote.
