Numerous rallies took place on Monday across Poland in support of women's rights and to protest against the government's plans to ban abortions, local media reported.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to the Polskie Radio broadcaster, the organizers of the nationwide protests started to collect signatories for a petition against women's discrimination.

Polish media reported that during the manifestations held in different cities, their participants also protested against the comments of the leader of the ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party Jaroslaw Kaczynski about the need to toughen the country's abortion legislation, which is already among the strictest in the European Union, and voiced demands to ease the existing laws.

Monday's protests followed a wave of rallies across the country on October 4, when about 100,000 people participated in manifestations, according to Jaroslaw Szymczyk, the chief of Polish police. Following the protests held three weeks ago, the Polish parliament voted against the abortion ban.
