Moscow positively assesses the recent Normandy Four format talks on the situation in Donbass held in Berlin, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Thursday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — On Wednesday, the leaders of Germany, France, Russia and Ukraine gathered in Berlin for the Normandy Four talks on Ukrainian settlement. The sides also discussed the situation in Syria.

"In general, [we assess them as] positive. We have never had excessive expectations. And if you remember, we have warned against excessive expectations. We have said that an extra proof of commitment, a lack of alternative for the Minsk agreements is already a positive development in current situation, which deserves a positive assessment," Peskov told journalists.

The spokesman also said that another Normandy format meeting would be initiated only if necessary, and that at the moment only the meetings of foreign ministers and presidential aides have been scheduled.
