WARSAW (Sputnik) – The Czech Republic is interested in constructing gas pipeline with Poland and counts on the implementation of the project, aimed at diversifying gas supplies, Czech President Milos Zeman said Saturday.
"Our countries have common interests in the [sphere of] energy policy. Personally, I stressed Czech Republic’s interest in the gas pipeline, the 'interconnector' that will connect Poland and Czech Republic," Zeman said at the press conference, held in the follow-up to the negotiations of the Visegrad Four group (V4), comprising the Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary and Slovakia.
Zeman reminded, that some issues emerged in debates over the pipeline construction, namely, the request for additional subsidies was submitted to the European Commission (EC) and then withdrawn. In the near future, the request is expected to be submitted again.
Zeman expressed hope for the project’s success in diversifying gas supplies.
