Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif arrived on Saturday in the Swiss city of Lausanne to participate in the ministerial talks on Syria.

LAUSANNE (Switzerland) (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qasemi confirmed Zarif's visit to Lausanne to attend the international event.

Apart from Iran, participation in the Saturday ministerial talks has been confirmed by the United States, Russia, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Turkey. The talks will focus on the issue of reviving the ceasefire in civil-war-torn Syria.

The ongoing conflict in Syria has lasted for about five years. Since its beginning it has claimed the lives of thousands of people and displaced millions more. The international community has undertaken steps to end the Syrian conflict and to solve the humanitarian crisis in the country.
