BRUSSELS (Sputnik) – Strengthening Europe's security and defense capacities will enhance NATO military potential in facing modern security challenges, EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini said Friday.
"Strengthening the European defense is also the way of strengthening security and peace building in the world…. a strong European defense is also a way of strengthening NATO… NATO needs the strong European defense cooperation," Mogherini said at a press conference.
She added that NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg was the first person to whom she "physically" handed over the Global Strategy for the European Union's Foreign And Security Policy.
In late September, Mogherini said that the defense ministers of the European Union countries would prepare proposals on security building and defense measures for the Defense Ministers Council set for November.
