"The Public Prosecutor General, yesterday (September 23, 2016), based on the warrant issued by the investigating judge of the Federal Court on May 18, 2016, arrested 22-year-old German national Anil O. on his return from Turkey to the Federal Republic of Germany at Dusseldorf airport using the officers of the Federal Police and the state criminal police of North Rhine-Westphalia due to the strong suspicion of his membership of the foreign terrorist organization Daesh," the press release read.
According to the prosecutor's office, in August 2015 the suspect left Germany through Turkey to Syria, where he joined the Daesh and received training at the Daesh training camp and also recruited others to move there. At the end of December 2015, he traveled from Syria to Turkey, where he remained until traveling back to Germany.
Terrorist threat in Germany remains high, with suspects being arrested almost weekly in the wake of two lone-wolf attacks in Germany's Bavaria in July. Responsibility for both attacks was claimed by the Daesh jihadist group, which is banned in Germany, as well as Russia and many other countries.
