YEREVAN (Sputnik) – Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan appointed former mayor of Yerevan Karen Karapetyan prime minister, the presidential press service said Tuesday.
"Pursuant to paragraph 4, article 55 of the Constitution of Armenia, I appoint Karen Karapetyan Prime Minister of Armenia," the decree states.
Armenia's ruling Republican Party approved Karapetyan’s candidacy on September 8 following the resignation of Hovik Abrahamyan. The new prime minister has 20 days to form a cabinet.
