In Italy, an 8-month-old baby was taken to hospital after he swallowed a piece of hashish thinking it was chocolate.

When the baby was brought to Rivoli's town hospital in an ambulance, he was half asleep and livid, local press reported.

The parents lied to the doctors, telling them that their baby had eaten dog food; however, the medical workers did not believe them. Toxicology tests showed the presence of a trace amount of drugs, which was enough to cause the reaction.

It turned out that the child had eaten a piece of hashish, probably similar in color and shape to a morsel of chocolate. He found it while playing on the terrace, where his mom and dad were relaxing with their friends.

From Rivoli the baby was transferred to Regina Margherita Children's Hospital in Torino. He is currently under the supervision of doctors, and now his condition is improving.

After such an incident, the question of the parents' competence immediately raised. The child's father claims that he and his wife received dozens of messages with insults on social networks, and that after this terrible event their life became a nightmare.

"My child felt sick, he could not breathe, and we immediately took him to the hospital. There, from the very beginning, the attitude towards us was terrible. It's not true that we haven't told about hashish. I was the first to say he could have swallowed something," the father told the Italian online newspaper La Stampa.

The baby's father claimed that he and his wife were not using the drugs, and that they were ready to pass the tests to prove it. Hashish could have been brought into the house by accident, on the sole of a shoe, he said.

"We are ready to explain everything, we have nothing to hide. We are not the terrible parents [you see] described in the Internet. We are not the kind of people who do drugs in front of their babies," the parents stated.
