German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s potential run for a fourth chancellor's term is opposed by 50 percent of German voters, according to a survey published Sunday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) The Emnid poll conducted for the newspaper Bild revealed that 42 percent of Germans still supported Merkel’s re-appointment as Chancellor, a 3-percent drop compared to November 2015.

The survey was conducted on Thursday; 501 people participated.

The next German federal elections are expected to be held between August 27 and October 22, 2017. Merkel, first appointed as Chancellor in November 2005, is currently serving her third term in office.

Merkel is not expected to announce her bid until next spring.
