Mayor of London Sadiq Khan on Thursday criticized a ban on wearing burkini on public beaches in some French resorts, media reported.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Earlier this summer, burkinis were banned from municipal beaches in 15 French towns, including Nice that suffered from a terrorist attack in July that killed 84 people.

“I’m quite firm on this. I don’t think anyone should tell women what they can and can’t wear. Full stop. It’s as simple as that,” Khan told the Evening Standard during a visit to Paris.

Meanwhile, the Highest Administrative Court of France will today examine a request by the French Human Rights League to cancel the burkini ban.

Burkini is a type of swimsuit that covers the whole body except the face.
