MH17 Crash Probe Initial Results to Be Unveiled September 28

A preliminary investigation report into the downing of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 over eastern Ukraine will be released on September 28, the Dutch Public Prosecution Service (OM) said Friday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak said this month he expected the international probe report to be published before the end of the year.

"We have informed victims' relatives that we will have a new meeting on September 28 where the results of the criminal investigation will be unveiled," OM spokesman Wim de Bruin told the AFP news service.

De Bruin specified the preliminary results would indicate “which weapon was used and from where it was fired.”

On August 4, Razak said the five-country Joint Investigation Team (JIT) – Australia, Belgium, Netherlands, Malaysia and Ukraine – would call a meeting to determine a plan of action to bring the perpetrators to justice following the publication of the report.

Flight MH17 crashed with 298 people on board on July 17, 2014, in eastern Ukraine, while en route to Kuala Lumpur from Amsterdam, leaving no survivors. Kiev and independence supporters in Ukraine’s southeast have blamed each other for the downing of the MH17 plane.

Dutch investigators published a report in October 2015 claiming that the Malaysia Airlines aircraft appeared to have been downed using a Russia-produced Buk surface-to-air missile system. The report did not identify the exact location from where the missile was fired.
