MOSCOW (Sputnik) — In line with the British litigation proceedings, the appeal filed by the firm allows for a ruling to be passed without a full-scale litigation, which includes oral arguments, based on the fact that Ukraine does not any chances to rebut the debt repayment claims.
"If the court grants satisfies this motion, the full-scale legal proceedings will be unnecessary, and the final ruling could be passed in the beginning of 2017," the ministry said in a statement.
Moscow filed a lawsuit against Ukraine in the London High Court in February after Kiev defaulted on repayment of a $3-billion loan that Russia granted to Ukraine in 2013 under the former Ukrainian president Viktor Yanukovych.
Russia seeks to recover the principal in full, $75 million of unpaid interest and legal fees.
