SUKHUMI (Sputnik) — Abkhazian security forces are working on measures to prevent tensions in the country as well as on ways to ensure activities of the opposition are in line with law, President Raul Khajimba told Sputnik in an interview.
"Activities of relevant agencies, including the security ones, are focused on efforts to prevent aggravation of the situation in the republic, on keeping the activities of opposition within the framework of our laws," Khajimba said.
On Tuesday, Abkhazian opposition held a rally demanding to postpone a referendum on snap presidential elections from July 10. The rally erupted into clashes as the protesters tried to storm the Interior Ministry of the partially recognized state. Khajimba said that the protests were an attempt to destabilize the situation in the country but signed a decree to dismiss the interior minister.
