Europe needs a change and it needs to overcome fear and aggression, as well as political and economic self-interest, Pope Francis said in a video message on Saturday.

VATICAN (Sputnik) — The Pope's video was sent to participants of the Christian manifestation titled 'Together for Europe' which was held in Munich from June 30 to July 1, and was closed with the Outdoor Rally event held in Munich’s Karlsplatz earlier today.

"We need to change! Europe is called upon to reflect and to ask itself whether its enormous heritage should go to the museum, or it is still capable to inspire culture and give its treasure to humanity," the Pope said.

He added that Europe is a part of a difficult and highly-paced world, which is getting more globalized and less Euro-centric.

"In addition to some visible walls, the hidden walls which are trying to divide the continent are being reinforced. These walls are erected in the people's hearts. The walls are created from fear and aggression, as well as from the lack of understanding for people of different origin and religion. The walls made of political and economic selfishness deny the respect for life and the human dignity of each person," the Pope warned.

'Together for Europe' manifestation brings together over 300 Christian movements and communities belonging to different Churches and spread across the European continent.

On June 27, Pope Francis said that the war already exists in Europe and suggested the European Union to a consider a new and more loose form of organization.
