    The extremists detained in Kazakhstan during a recent special operation were plotting an attack on a Russian military compound in the country.

    ASTANA (Sputnik) — A group of extremists detained in a special operation in Kazakhstan's Karaganda region were planning an attack on a Russian military unit near the city of Balkhash, a source in Kazakhtan's security services said Friday.

    "They were planning to attack the Russian military unit…after the attack, the detained were planning to travel to Syria," the source said.

    Kazakh authorities said Thursday that six extremists plotting a terrorist attack had been detained in a special operation in Karaganda.
