Britain Says 'Cheerio' to EU (463)

Dozens of people on Tuesday took part in a protest against the vote, in which the majority of UK electorate supported leaving the European Union, in central London despite the demonstration being officially cancelled.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — A crowd has gathered in the central Trafalgar Square, as broadcast by Sputnik.

The rally has been earlier cancelled due to the fact that too many people signed up to take part in the protest, making it logistically impossible to ensure safety at the event, according to the organizers.

Another march to support the European Union is planned to be held in London on July 9.

On June 23, the United Kingdom held a referendum to determine whether or not the country should leave the European Union. According to the final results, 51.9 percent of voters, or 17.4 million people, decided to support Brexit, while about 16.1 million opposed it.
