British Prime Minister David Cameron is giving a statement in London after the UK voted for the country's exit from the EU.

The United Kingdom’s will to leave the European Union must be respected, UK Prime Minister David Cameron said Friday commenting on the results of a vote on the issue.

“The British people have voted to leave the European Union and their will must be respected,” Cameron said in a statement.

There will be no immediate change following the Brexit referendum when it comes to travel and trade of goods and services, UK Prime Minister David Cameron said.

"I would reassure those markets and investors that Britain's economy is fundamentally strong, and I would also assure Brits leaving in European countries and European citizens living here that there will be no immediate changes in your circumstances," Cameron told reporters.

"There will be no initial change in the way our people can travel, in the way our goods can move or the way our services can be sold," he added.

Negotiations with the European Union as the United Kingdom is withdrawing from it need to be under the leadership of a new prime minister, Prime Minister David Cameron said.

“A negotiation with the European Union will need to begin under a new prime minister and I think it’s right that this new prime minister takes the decision when to trigger Article 50 [of the Lisbon treaty on withdrawing from the bloc] and start the formal and legal process of leaving the EU,” Cameron said in a statement.

UK Prime Minister David Cameron will travel to attend the European Council next week to discuss the results of a referendum where Britons voted to leave the European Union.

"I will attend the European Council next week to explain the decision the British people have taken and my own decision [to resign over the results of the referendum]," Cameron said in a statement.

On Thursday, the United Kingdom held a referendum on its membership of the European Union. Earlier on Friday, it was announced that 51.9 percent of people supported the move to leave the bloc.
