MOSCOW (Sputnik) — French law enforcement officials confirmed media reports that local football hooligans were involved into initiation of clashes between the fans, in particular, fans of PSG (Paris Saint-Germain) F.C. and members of fan group Boulogne Boys.
"New arrests are likely to happen….Though the number of initial detentions seems to be insignificant, the second phase of investigation of identification of those involved into violence is already underway," Le Parisien said citing its sources in police.
According to the chief of the French police department for combating football hooliganism Antoine Butonne, fans from Marseille and Paris were among the crowd.
On June 12, Russian national football team played in a draw with the team of England at the Velodrome stadium in Marseille as a part of the UEFA’s Euro-2016 championship. The game ended with 1:1 score. After the match, the clashes between Russian and English fans erupted at the stadium.
