UK Police Confirm Package Found at Manchester Stadium 'Training Device'
MOSCOW (Sputnik) Police Federation Chairman Steve White will use his keynote speech at Tuesday's PFEW annual conference, which will be attended by the UK home secretary, to urge May and senior police chiefs to take action toward expanding the use of Taser stun guns for frontline officers, Sky News said.

"Nobody’s saying it should be compulsory [carrying a Taser gun]. But officers should be allowed to use their judgment and their discretion… No police officer should ever go to work with an expectation that they will be injured," the police federation chairman said, adding that "we need Taser."

Police officers performing frontline duty without Taser stun guns are left vulnerable to possible attacks, he stressed.

The move comes after a study, commissioned by the federation, has revealed that just one out of 10 officers is able to use Taser, while one third of all officers face physical attacks at least once a month and six out of 10 want to carry Tasers.

The UK home secretary is also due to make a speech at the annual PFEW conference.
