French people are right to not trust their media outlets on issues related to migrant crime, Jean-Luc Schaffhausser, a French Member of European Parliament, told Sputnik on Tuesday, commenting on the results of a poll on the issue.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — On Tuesday, the survey conducted exclusively for Sputnik by Populus Ltd., a leading British polling company, revealed that majority of respondents in Germany and France, as well as almost half of those in the United Kingdom, believe their media and governments provide biased information about migrant crime.

"Absolutely! The media don't tell the truth and French people are right not to trust media, politician, parties," the lawmaker, who is a member of the Europe of Nations and Freedom Group in the European Parliament, said.

Schaffhausser expressed his belief that the French government did not take the threat represented by numerous migrants seriously.

"There is a security problem with all those migrants but government says there are no problems with them. The French authorities are not capable of managing the situation," the politician explained.

In France alone, 67 percent of respondents expressed opinion that they regard the information given by media and government to be biased with 17 percent of surveyed believed they receive objective information about crimes which may be committed by migrants in France.

Europe has been beset by a massive refugee crisis, with hundreds of thousands of undocumented migrants fleeing their home countries in the Middle East and North Africa to escape violence and poverty.
