MOSCOW (Sputnik) — UK law enforcers have arrested five people in the British city of Birmingham over alleged involvement in commissioning, preparing or instigating terrorist acts, UK West Midlands Police said in a statement Friday.
The UK law enforcement officers arrested three men and a woman in Birmingham on Thursday, according to the statement published on the West Midlands Police website. Another man was arrested at the United Kingdom's second-largest Gatwick Airport earlier on Friday.
"The arrests were pre-planned and intelligence-led. There was no risk to the public at any time and there is no information to suggest an attack in the UK was being planned," the statement quoted Assistant Chief Constable Marcus Beale as saying.
West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit officers are questioning all five suspects, according to the statement.
