MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Germany is boosting security measures at its airports and on the border with Belgium after around 30 people were killed in a series of blasts in Brussels, German Federal Police told Sputnik on Tuesday.
Two explosions hit Brussels' Zaventem airport at around 8:00 a.m. local time (07:00 GMT) earlier in the day. Shortly after, blasts were heard across metro stations in central Brussels.
"I can confirm that we increased measures especially at the airport, railway stations and areas close to the border with Benelux [Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg] states. We told our officers to wear special equipment," a police press officer said.
The explosions at the airport killed at least 13 people and injured 35, according to the prosecutor's office in Brussels. The blasts at Maalbeek metro station in Brussels city center reportedly claimed the lives of up to 15 people and left 10 in critical condition.
