Serbian leadership declared a state of emergency across 15 municipalities in the Balkan republic because of flash floods that damaged a total of 710 households, the Serbian Interior Ministry said Tuesday.

BELGRADE (Sputnik) Earlier in the day, the ministry announced an emergency situation across 11 municipalities.

The city of Kraljevo along the West Morava River experienced the most damage with 360 submerged households, followed by 150 households in Cacak municipality.

Defense Minister Zoran Djordjevic deployed the national armed forces to carry out aid and rescue efforts in affected areas.

Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic pledged to reimburse "almost all the damage" inflicted by the flooding.

In May 2014, Serbia was hit by floods that forced more than 30,000 people from their homes and destroyed or damaged infrastructure.
