DAVOS (Sputnik) — London and Brussels have made good progress in talks to reform the European Union as Britain seeks to renegotiate the terms of its membership, UK Prime Minister David Cameron said Thursday.
"There is a proper renegotiation going and already it’s made very good progress," Cameron assured reporters at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
The European Council is scheduled to meet in Brussels on February 18-19 to take stock of the progress made in the talks on UK-proposed reforms of the bloc – on competitiveness, economic governance, sovereignty, and social security.
"Are we there yet, as my children say when we are driving to some long-lost destination? No, we are not there yet. But I think there is the prospect that there is a possibility of getting these issues sorted by the February Council," Cameron added.
After a deal is struck, Britain will hold an in/out referendum that the Conservatives promised during spring 2015 pre-election campaign.
