MOSCOW (Sputnik), Alexander Mosesov — On Saturday, Austrian police stated that several European capitals received a warning from a "friendly intelligence service" about possible terrorist attacks during the holiday season.
"This statement has nothing to do with us… This comes from the Austrian police," the press bureau of the London Metropolitan Police said.
Austrian police said Saturday it increased monitoring and surveillance following the warning, although it had no additional information on the threat in terms of place or time.
Security in Europe has been on high alert since the November 13 terrorist attacks in Paris claimed by the Islamic State (IS or Daesh in Arabic), a jihadist group outlawed in many states including Russia. Following the attacks, British Transport Police introduced more patrols in response to an increased terrorist threat.
