Russia Respects Considerable Amount of EU Human Rights Court’s Decisions
Russian Foreign Ministry's Human Rights Ombudsman Konstantin Dolgov said that Russian citizens should first appeal to local courts and only then address the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR).
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russia is respecting an extensive amount of decision carried out by the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), Russian Foreign Ministry's Human Rights Ombudsman Konstantin Dolgov said Friday.
4 December 2015, 14:56 GMT
"Nobody denies Russian citizens the right to appeal to the ECHR. We respect a substantial amount of ECHR decisions," Dolgov said at a press conference at the Rossiya Segodnya International Information Agency.
Dolgov added that Russian citizens should first appeal to local courts and only then address the ECHR.
On December 4, Russia adopted a law that gives its Constitutional Court the right to legally disregard the decisions of international courts if they violate the provisions of the Russian Constitution.
