The Belgian lower house of parliament has decided to establish a special commission to combat terrorism, local media reported Thursday.

BRUSSELS (Sputnik) — According to the Belga news agency, the decision was made by the leaders of the parliamentary groups and will be formally approved later in the day.

The Belgian federal government has been developing additional measures to detect and prevent terrorist attacks following the November 13 deadly attacks in Paris.

Earlier in the month, Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel said that the government would allocate an additional 400 million euros ($427 million) to countering extremism and increasing security.

On November 13, in a series of coordinated attacks at various locations in the French capital, extremists killed 130 people and injured over 360.

Belgium, and specifically the Brussels suburb of Molenbeek, has been at the center of investigations into the Paris attacks.
