German Labor Minister Hopes Migrants May Boost Economic Growth
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Speaking with the German newspaper Welt am Sonntag, Tusk said Berlin’s attitude to immigrants was "the most liberal and tolerant in Europe’s history," but added it should take seriously its duty to defend Eu frontiers.

"I understand that Germany, for historical reasons, may find it difficult to toughen the border regime. But Germany’s duty toward Europe also means that, if necessary, it should be able to vigorously control European borders together with other European countries," Tusk said.

The European Union is struggling to cope with a massive refugee inflow from conflict-torn countries in the Middle East, Asia and North Africa.

Austrian police said Saturday that some 6,800 migrants crossed from Slovenia to Austria on Friday alone, with the majority expected to move north into Germany. Berlin has recently accused Vienna of waving migrants through and even helping them cross the border under the cover of darkness.
