The Spanish Civil Guard and the Italian Coast Guard rescued 523 undocumented migrants some 25 nautical miles from the Libyan capital of Tripoli, the Civil Guard said in a statement Saturday.

MADRID (Sputnik) — The guards located several boats, carrying migrants, including 125 women and 22 children, according to the statement. The rescued claim to be from a number of countries, including Nigeria, Gambia, Senegal, Libya, Ivory Coast, Guinea Bissau and Equatorial Guinea.

The rescue mission was carried out as part of the Triton naval operation, launched by the EU border security agency Frontex in November 2014.
