Syriza, ANEL Receive 155 Seats in Greek Parliament out of 300

According to interior ministry, the coalition of the left-wing Syriza party and the conservative Independent Greeks (ANEL) received a combined 155 seats in the 300-seat parliament.

ATHENS (Sputnik) – The coalition of the left-wing Syriza party and the conservative Independent Greeks (ANEL) received a combined 155 seats in the 300-seat parliament, the final snap election results, published by the interior ministry on Monday, showed.

Eight parties will enter parliament following the snap elections held in Greece on Sunday.

Syriza received 35.46 percent of votes and 145 seats, while ANEL with 3.69 percent of public support secured 10 parliamentary seats, according to the interior ministry. The leaders of Syriza and ANEL, Alexis Tsipras and Panos Kammenos respectively, announced on Sunday that they would start discussions on the formation of a new government the next day.

The center-right New Democracy party, which came second in the snap elections, obtained 75 parliamentary seats, followed by the far-right Golden Dawn with 6.99-percent of the ballot.

The center-left PASOK party has 17 seats in parliament, the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) – 15 seats, Potami – 11 seats and the Union of Centrists – the remaining 9 seats.

According to preliminary data, some 56.55 percent of the Greek electorate voted on Sunday.
