The Minsk peace accords on Ukraine reconciliation must be fully implemented as they are the only constructive way to resolve the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the country, OSCE PA President Ilkka Kanerva said on Thursday.

ULAN BATOR (Sputnik) — The Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe Parliamentary Assembly (OSCE PA) is currently underway in the Mongolian capital of Ulan Bator. The settlement of the crisis in Ukraine is high on the session agenda.

"We try to promote all positive ways for dialogue on the Ukrainian crisis. We have been facilitating some direct contacts between the delegations of Ukraine and Russia and also we had very constructive bilateral meeting with both delegations… It is absolutely clear that the only way to go further is through the Minsk agreement implementation," Kanerva told reporters.

Southeastern Ukraine infrastructure and society are heavily damaged by a long-term military operation against local independence supporters, launched by Kiev authorities in April 2014.

In February, the leaders of Russia, Ukraine, France and Germany agreed to a ceasefire deal in Minsk, Belarus, signed by representatives of the Kiev government and independence supporters from eastern Ukraine.

Until recently the region remained tense with both sides in the conflict repeatedly accusing each other of violating the peace. Earlier in September, evidence revealed that the ceasefire was finally taking hold.
