Hungary has finished construction of a 110-mile Hungary-Serbia border fence to stop an uncontrolled inflow of undocumented immigrants, aiming to extend it to Romania to the east and Croatia to the west.
Hungarian authorities began surveying the 275-mile Romanian border in preparation for construction on Wednesday. Hungary shares a 204-mile border with Croatia.
Hungary closed its southern border with Serbia from midnight into Tuesday morning after strict new border control measures took effect, prompting several thousand migrants to reroute to Croatia.
Hundreds of thousands of migrants have entered the European Union through Hungary since the beginning of 2015.
