In an interview with Sputnik, Polish politician Mateusz Piskorski said that one would not accept Poland as an arbitrator in the Ukrainian conflict. From the very beginning, Poland categorically supported one of the parties and thus lost the right to declare its impartiality.

The politician stated that the former Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski was representing the interests of the United States and implementing them.

“First of all, it is clear that Minister Sikorski has been trying to raise the profile of the EU states that have not pursued an independent policy, but implemented a policy contrary to the purposes and objectives of the EU,” he told Sputnik.

In short, he sought to enhance the role of countries such as Poland, Romania and the Baltic countries. That is why he decided to stick to the US position and “lost the right to declare its impartiality and play the role of arbitrator” in the Ukrainian conflict.

According to Piskorski, Poland's participation in the negotiations and the peace process would strengthen Kiev’s position. DPR and LPR do not trust Poland, because from the beginning Poland has supported only one side of the conflict.

Recently, Polish President Andrzej Duda proposed a new format for peace talks on the Ukrainian crisis. He suggested organizing a “broad peaceful conference” and involving major European states as well as Ukraine's neighboring countries in the process of the conflict resolution.

However, Piskorski believes that such a format would only make sense if certain issues concerning the wave of mass immigration from Ukraine, or the spillover of the conflict on the territory of other states, is resolved.

“Duda has not made any constructive proposals to resolve the conflict. […] Duda believes he will be able to speak in this conflict as a mediator, which is impossible by definition,” Piskorski said.
