MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Finnish residents would rather live near a rehabilitation facility for alcoholics than close to a Muslim mosque, according to a new poll.

Only 34 percent of respondents said they would not object to living close to a mosque, a poll commissioned by the Finnish Broadcasting Company Yle and conducted by Taloustutkimus revealed on Monday.

Only a needle exchange center for drug addicts proved less popular, with only 27 percent of those polled willing to have such neighbors, while a rehabilitation facility for alcoholics was acceptable to 43 percent of respondents.

A reception center for asylum seekers also scored low, with an acceptance rate of 41 percent among respondents.

The survey was conducted among some 1,000 respondents between July 21 and 29.

Anti-Islamization sentiment has been on the rise in Europe in recent months amid the advance of the Islamic State jihadist group in the Middle East and several IS-inspired terrorist attacks in EU member states.
