The head of the Culture and Transport Commission of Norway, Finnmark Remi Strand, said that the Norwegian province bordering with Russian Murmansk region is interested in increasing the flow of cross-border movement between the Russian Federation and Norway.
"Storskog-Borisoglebsk, the check-point on the Norwegian, Russian border now work only in the daytime and it is completely impractical. We will ask the leaders of Norway and Russia for opening the border open around the clock. This will contribute to the development of tourism and an increase in cross-border flow in general. This opinion is shared by the local authorities in both countries,” said Remi Strand, media reports.
According to Strand, this measure will contribute to the development of bus service between the city of Murmansk and the cities of Northern Norway — Kirkenes, Vadsø, Tromso and others.
He further said that expanding contact between the residents of the two states should provide a simplification of the visa regime and create inflow of regular flights between Tromsø and Murmansk.
