New Poll Gives Labour Four-Point Lead Over Tories Ahead of UK Election
MOSCOW (Sputnik) The Labour and the Conservative parties are the two largest parties, major rivals in the upcoming election on May 7. British Prime Minister David Cameron has vowed to hold a referendum on United Kingdom membership in the European Union by 2017 if his Conservative Party wins, while Labour is opposed to holding a vote.

On Sunday, a YouGov poll revealed that 36 percent of the voters back Labour and 32 percent support the Conservative Tories.

The UK general election is scheduled for May 7, 2015. British citizens will elect representatives to sit in the House of Commons, the country's lower house of parliament, for terms that will last five years.

Earlier Monday, the UK parliament was dissolved for the 25 days prior to the election. The State Opening of the new parliament is set for May 27, while the first meeting and the swearing-in of members is expected to be held May 18.
