UK PM Says Results of Greek Election to Increase Economic Uncertainty in EU

Results of the parliamentary elections in Greece will increase the economic uncertainty in Europe, David Cameron claims.

MOSCOW, January 26 (Sputnik) — UK Prime Minister David Cameron said Monday the results of the parliamentary elections in Greece will increase the economic uncertainty in Europe.

"The Greek election will increase economic uncertainty across Europe. That's why the UK must stick to our plan, delivering security at home," Cameron wrote on his Twitter.

The radical left Siryza party, which has promised to revise Greece's austerity measures and reconsider its relations with creditors, is leading the country's parliamentary elections.

According to the data from 90 percent of polling stations across the country, Greece's anti-austerity Syriza party is eight percent ahead of the incumbent New Democracy party with 36.32 percent of the votes. Syriza received 149 seats in parliament.

Snap parliamentary elections in Greece took place on January 25, following the current parliament's dissolution over its failure to elect a new president after three attempts.

Syriza's leader Alexis Tsipras has pledged in his pre-election campaign that his party would put an end to the widely unpopular austerity measures imposed by EU bankers, including severe budget cuts and tax hikes.

Commenting on the speculations about Greece exiting the Eurozone, Tsipras gave assurances that his party did not intend to take Greece out of the euro currency bloc.
