Five Chinese companies agreed to invest 3 billion yuan ($431.9 million) into production of vehicles partially or fully powered by electricity in the country, local media reported Friday.

BEIJING (Sputnik) — Dalian Wanda Group, China International Marine Containers, Zhuhai Yinlong, a Chinese green energy solution provider, were among the five investors which signed a deal on cooperation in the so-called new energy automobile industry, the People's Daily newspaper reported.

"If we could commercialize its green technology properly, the market value will double," Wang Jianlin, the chairman of Dalian Wanda Group, said, as quoted by the newspaper.

In 2015, China became the world's largest new energy vehicle market with the sales increasing ever since.

In October, Chinese authorities announced a plan to open the largest research and construction center of new energy vehicles by 2020 in Beijing.
