Netherlands Confident Business Ties to 'Blossom' With New Brazilian Gov't

The Netherlands hopes its economic ties with Brazil will not be hampered by the shift of power.

MOSCOW (Sputnik), Alexander Mosesov — The Netherlands is confident that the country's relations with Brazil will continue to develop in a positive way following the impeachment of the country’s former President Dilma Rousseff, a spokesman for the Dutch foreign trade minister told Sputnik.

"We have a long standing business relationships in a wide range of different sectors like agriculture, logistics, water, energy, aviation, just to name a few. We have full confidence that with the new government this relationship will continue to blossom," Herman van Gelderen said.

According to the website of the Dutch government, the Netherlands is Brazil’s fourth-largest export market. The Latin American country mostly supplies the Netherlands with raw materials, such as minerals, ores, meat, soya.

Van Gelderen added that the Netherlands is aware of the difficult economic situation in Brazil and hopes the new government will address the issue.

"We are aware of the current difficult situation of the Brazilian economy. We hope that the new government will continue the work to take the necessary steps to guarantee sustainable long term growth of the Brazilian economy," the spokesman said.

In May, the upper house of the Brazilian parliament voted to start impeachment proceedings against Rousseff after she was accused of concealing the country’s budget deficit ahead of the 2014 election. Rousseff regarded the impeachment proceedings as an illegal coup.

Following the vote to impeach Rousseff on Wednesday, Vice President Michel Temer of the Brazilian Democratic Movement Party was ratified in as the country’s new leader. Rousseff's impeachment marks the end of 13 years of the socialist Workers' Party being in power in the country.
