TOKYO (Sputnik) The Russian Economic Development Ministry sees an opportunity of creating partnerships with Japanese investors to enter the markets of the Pacific Rim countries, Deputy Economic Development Minister Stanislav Voskresensky said Monday.

"Our position in the Pacific Rim region is active, and one of the opportunities we see today is… the creation of joint projects with Japanese businesses – this is the creation of joint projects to enter the markets of the Pacific Rim countries," Voskresensky said.

Earlier this month, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich said Moscow was willing to let Japanese investors take significant ownership in major oil and gas ventures.

The relations between the two countries strained after Tokyo supported certain Western economic sanctions against Russia imposed in 2014 over an alleged Moscow's interference in the armed conflict in eastern Ukraine. The Kremlin has repeatedly denied the claims.
