Saudi Arabia will privatize all 27 airports operating in the country by 2020, a marketing general manager in the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) said Thursday.

MANAMA (Sputnik) — Basem Sallom told RIA Novosti that the set goals of privatization are to cut costs as well as to improve the quality of service.

"We started the process of the airports' privatization in the previous year from the privatization of the airport in the [eastern Saudi] city of Medina. We are planning to transfer into private hands one of the terminals of our capital's airport and to carry out privatization of all 27 airports by 2020," Basem Sallom said on the sidelines of the Bahrain International Airshow (BIAS-2016).

The BIAS-2016 event is taking place in Bahrain on January 21-23. Pilots from a number of countries, including the United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia and India are taking part in the show.
