MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Ankara will be ready to discuss the Turkish Stream project with Russia in detail when a discount on the Russian gas is agreed between the two countries, Turkish interim Energy Minister Ali Riza Alaboyun told Sputnik Turkey on Friday.

Russia Sends to Turkey Two Proposals on Turkish Stream Gas Pipeline
The Turkish Stream gas pipeline construction was expected to begin in June, but the governments of Russia and Turkey have not yet signed an agreement on the project. Earlier this month, Turkey said it would not abandon the project despite construction schedule delays.

"A detailed discussion of the project plan and its implementation can only begin after an agreement is reached on the provision of discounts," Alaboyun stated.

According to the interim minister, the issue of granting Turkey a 10-percent gas discount was orally discussed but was never fixed on paper.

The current Turkish authorities are convinced in the necessity of the project, however the status of an interim cabinet of ministers does not allow them to take decisive steps in that direction, Alaboyun added.

The Turkish Stream is a proposed pipeline with an annual capacity of 63 billion cubic meters that will run from Russia to Turkey beneath the Black Sea. The pipeline will continue to a hub on the Turkish-Greek border, from where it will be extended to Southern Europe.
