Iran is interested in sharing gas technology expertise with Russia as part of an enhanced level of cooperation that would become possible after Western sanctions against the Islamic Republic are lifted, the director of the National Iranian Gas Company’s Liaison Office said Wednesday.

PARIS (Sputnik) – Azizollah Ramezani told RIA Novosti on the sidelines of the Gas Congress industry convention in Paris that his company had agreed to cooperate with Russia’s energy giant Gazprom.

"I think we can work on sharing technologies, exchange of information on technologies… For example, Russia has long-standing experience in gas exports and gas transit pipelines. Iran has good experience in CNG [compressed natural gas] and the use of natural gas in vehicles."

"Our chief executive visited Russia last year and signed a memorandum of cooperation between the two companies," Ramezani said, adding that joint committees for cooperation in various sectors will be established soon.

Iran is awaiting the removal of energy-related sanctions imposed on the country by the United Nations and individual states over fears it was developing nuclear weapons under the guise of a civilian nuclear energy program.

The deadline for a final comprehensive nuclear deal between international negotiators and Tehran is set for June 30.
