Greece has transferred an installment of 750 million euro (about $840 million) to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Tuesday, repaying part of its multibillion dollar debt, a source in Greek Ministry of Finance said.

ATHENS (Sputnik) — According to the payment schedule, on May 12 Greece had to repay about 750 million euro to the IMF.

"Everything that had to be paid has been paid. Greece has transferred the tranche required," the source told RIA Novosti.

According to Western media, the payment left Athens without money to service other loans it has or to pay salaries and social benefits.

Greece was among the countries worst hit by global financial crisis of 2008-2009. The country's debt currently stands at about $360 billion.
