According to the UAE Assistant Foreign Minister for Security and Military Affairs, The UAE and Ukraine signed an agreement on military and security cooperation which does not foresee any deals on weapon deliveries between the countries.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The military cooperation agreement between Abu Dhabi and Kiev does not envisage UAE weapon supplies to Ukraine, the UAE Assistant Foreign Minister for Security and Military Affairs said on Friday.

“The UAE and Ukraine signed an agreement on military and security cooperation… The agreement does not foresee any deals on weapon deliveries between the countries,” Faris Mazrouei told Emarat Al Youm web portal.

The diplomat stressed that the agreement was focused on future military cooperation between the two countries.

An adviser to the Ukrainian Interior Minister said on Tuesday that Ukraine had signed a number of important contracts after The International Defence Exhibition and Conference IDEX-2015 held in Abu Dhabi. In particular, the adviser stressed that Ukraine would buy defensive weapons from the UAE, not specifying the type or quantities.

The news came amid a recent reconciliation deal between Kiev and Donbas independence supporters, who agreed to implement a ceasefire from February 15 and pull back heavy weaponry from the line of contact among other measures to stop the deadly conflict.

The bloodshed in eastern Ukraine has already left some 5,800 dead, according to the UN figures.
