MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Major Chinese e-commerce company Alibaba is considering selling Russian food products in China, the head of the Russian office of AliExpress, the company's retail service, said Friday.
“Chinese consumers have repeatedly encountered problems connected with the quality of local food, that is why the import of goods is quite popular in the country. Russian food would be able to fill in the market segment between Chinese and European goods,” Mark Zavadsky said at a press conference.
He added that negotiations with Russian manufacturers, retailers and a major courier company are already underway.
Earlier this month, AliExpress opened its first order pickup center in Moscow.
The Alibaba Group is a Chinese company founded in 1999 that operates online and mobile marketplaces in retail and wholesale trade. The company’s revenue for 2014 was estimated at $8.4 billion, according to Google Finance.
