AZERBAIJAN, RUSSIA HAIL ECONOMIC TIES

BAKU, April 7, 2004 (RIA Novosti) - Co-chairmen of the Azerbaijanian-Russian intergovernmental commission for economic cooperation - Russian Minister of Industry and Energy Viktor Khristenko and Azerbaijanian First Deputy Prime Minister Abbas Abbasov - stressed in Baku on Wednesday that Russia-Azerbaijan economic ties were successfully developing.

Khristenko pointed out space cooperation. He said that on Wednesday the first contract was signed on delivering a land-based station to Azerbaijan to receive information from Russian satellites testing Azerbaijanian territory.

Abbasov, in turn, noted the successful cooperation between the two countries in the fuel and energy sector, transport and also ties between customs and border services providing operative information exchange.

In his words, in 2004 Russia will deliver 5.5 billion cubic meters of gas to Azerbaijan.
