MOSCOW, March 15, 2004. (RIA Novosti). The new Prime Minister of Russia, Mikhail Fradkov, said privatisation would be carried on but decisions should be balanced.

Privatisation is "a project that should facilitate the creation of genuine and effective owners," Mr. Fradkov stressed presenting Valery Nazarov, new director of the Federal Property Management Agency to the staff on Monday. In his words, privatisation should contribute to the doubling of GDP in the next ten years and help attract investments in the economy.

On the other hand, privatisation decisions should be substantiated, well considered and socially minded, said the premier. Though all of its aspects are the responsibility of the Economic Development Ministry, the premier will also monitor the process.

Mr. Fradkov believes that Mr. Nazarov's job will be tough. Before appointment to the new post, Nazarov headed the St Petersburg department in the former Property Management Ministry and the control and audit department in the presidential administration.
