Gazprom has applied at the Rumanian ministry for economics and commerce for participating in a tender on purchasing government shareholdings in the Rumanian gas-distributinmg companies Distrigaz Nord and Distrigaz Sud. The source identified the company's aim as gaining access to end consumers in Rumania. The tender's terms provide for purchasing 30 percent of the shares of either company with the mandatory increase of its portion to 51 percent by means of buying out a new additional issue.
Applications to participate in this tender have been also submitted by Germany's Ruhrgas and Wintershall, France's Gaz de France as well as Italy's Enel.
